Balanced Living

A Daily Dose of Joy

Posted by Arja on October 26 in Holistic Health

Do something you love everyday.  That should be everyone’s motto, don’t you think?  It doesn’t have to be extravagant, or even take a long time, but each and every day we should take a minute or two to just be genuinely happy.  No strings attached.

As a society, we are getting busier and busier.  More people are finding that they’re lacking a healthy work-life balance whether they are single, partnered up, or have a family.  It seems like it is getting harder for everyone to take time out for themselves, and that is only increasing the stress and anxiety that is already so prevalent.

So, what are we to do?  Well, obviously, I espouse striving to have the healthiest diet you can, even if that only means small changes to what you’re already doing.  But it’s not all about food.  You have to be happy, feel genuine joy, and laugh your pants off whenever possible.  I have a preschooler, and lord knows, I struggle to have any time left for myself at the end of a day devoted to work and childcare.  I just want to plop myself down on the couch, have a glass of wine, and turn my tired brain off.  But the problem is, that’s not actually something that I really love to do.  It just happens to be something that takes the edge off.

So I dance.

Everyday if possible.  Sometimes with my little guy, and sometimes without.  It’s usually just as long as one song lasts, and as far as I’m concerned while it’s happening, I’m 23 years old dancing on the speaker in a club.  Would it be embarrassing if someone saw me?  Maybe, but who cares?  My son thinks our dance parties are a riot, and I feel really good after it happens.  So now you know my embarrassing secret.

It’s time for you to find 5 minutes a day to really make yourself happy.
