Grow Your Garden & My Favourite Kale Salad Base

A few weeks ago my 4 year old brought home a tiny paper cup filled with soil.  He told me that they had planted seeds at school as a part of some Earth Day activities, and that we needed to give the cup sun and water to help the seed grow.  I put the cup in our kitchen window and together we’ve been remembering to give it water, and check in on it.  I honestly didn’t think much about this at the time, but then I noticed the seed had started to sprout, and after this hard, miserable winter, it made me smile.

Meatless Meals – How to be a Healthy Vegetarian

Yes, you read that correctly.  “A healthy vegetarian”, implying that not all vegetarians are healthy.  There’s a lot of information out there about the health benefits of eating more plants and less animal products.  For the record, I agree wholeheartedly, and while my family and I are not vegans 100% of the time, we do eat a number of plant-based meals and have dramatically reduced our dependence on animal products.  What I’m seeing, however, is a growing trend of people incorporating more vegetarian and vegan meals into their diets who are on their way to becoming unhealthy vegetarians.

Trying New Things – Adventures in Sprouting!

I love to experiment in the kitchen, especially if it means discovering a homemade or DIY version of a food my family and I enjoy eating!  There’s something very satisfying about eliminating one more thing that I need to purchase at the store, and it usually means that I also get more control over the finished product and what goes into it.  Home grown sprouts have been no exception, requiring minimal (and basic) equipment, and little effort.  The bonus is that the gardener in me also gets the satisfaction of growing something in my kitchen!
